    Verdon > Gorges
source du Verdon, val d'Allos

The Verdon river originates near the col d’Allos in the Trois Evêchés massif at nearly 3000m elevation. After a 175 km journey, the Verdon flows into the Durance river near Vinon-sur-Verdon.

Le Galetas, Gorges du Verdon
The Verdon gorges separate the departments of Alpes de Haute Provence to the north and the Var to the south.

Grand Canyon du Verdon
The Route des Crêts (D23), a twenty kilometre loop out of La Palud sur Verdon, offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic viewpoints of the canyon.

Late morning on a sunny day is a good time to see the gryphon vultures circling overhead. The vultures were re-introduced ten years ago and the current population is nearly a hundred-strong in the Verdon.
